Senior GOYA
The St. Vasilios Sr. GOYA is for all high school teens in grades 9 through 12. To join the GOYA, simply come and hang out at one of our monthly gatherings! We're happy to have you join us.
Meetings
Meetings at the church consist of a business portion to plan upcoming events followed by an activity (e.g. volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, a movie night, ice cream social, or a "family style" dinner). Field trips have included Red Sox games, Celtics games, movies, mini-golf, laser tag, ice skating, our annual weekend ski trip to Sunday River in Maine, trips into Boston, and more!
Community Service
As a ministry of our Church, the GOYA is involved in community service work. Working in conjunction with our Sunday School's High School class, the GOYAns are involved with community service exclusively with the Lifebridge Homeless Shelter in Salem. In addition, the GOYA is always happy to serve its parish by volunteering at the Church Festival, Family Picnic, cleaning the church on Holy Friday, and various other church events.
In the summer of 2009, the parish established its first traveling youth mission team. Working through the Young Orthodox Christian American Missions Adventures (YOCAMA), our team works to provide assistance to people in need on American Indian Reservations. Work has included building handicap access ramps, building playgrounds, painting, cleaning, visiting with residents in a nursing home, and working with some of the local children.
