Fasting and Great Lent
The parish family of St Vasilios cordially invites you to participate in the greatest celebration of all....Pascha (Easter). Everyone is invited! Those who struggled through Great and Holy Lent to gain spiritual food and maturity and those who only came to church one or twice this year.
We must remember the words of St. John Chrysostom who called upon all of us as a loving and caring church to welcome Christ home. Yes, even to those who come only once a year are welcome.
We will be good hosts, not only because we are the St. Vasilios family, but also because we are the Church of the Living God. We will proclaim...Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen! What does that mean to us as people of this world? It means that salvation is given to all of us through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His Glorious Resurrection. Personally, Christ is Risen means that we no longer have to fear death. It means we no longer have to live in darkness. We have shared in Christ’s death and resurrection through our Baptism. Our responsibility is to live out the commitment that was professed for us by our Godparents and parents.
There is no greater joy than to feel the presence of Jesus Christ and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Let us all, then, enter into the joy of our Lord. You first and last receive alike your reward; you rich and poor rejoice together. You sober and you slothful, celebrate the day. You that have kept the fast, and you that have not, rejoice today; for the Table is richly laden. Feast royally on it. The calf is a fatted one. Let no one go away hungry. Partake, all of you, of the cup of faith. Enjoy, all of you, the richness of His goodness. Let no one grieve his or her poverty; for the universal Kingdom has been revealed (from the Pascal Sermon of St. John Chrysostom).
Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!
