Goodbye Pandemic
Well, on May 29th the Commonwealth went back pretty much to those pre-pandemic days! If you’re like me, you too can remember those days and it seems like I’m awakening from a very bad dream. I might suggest that we all pause for a moment and reflect on what we have been through. Perhaps you, like me, are thinking that through those dark and isolating months that Christ was what got you through it all. I think now is the appropriate time for reflection. So let me share with you some of my thoughts.
Certainly throughout the pandemic and on numerous occasions it was the Lord who brought calmness, strength and fortitude to my life when I felt tension, trepidation and weakness. So now, I am thinking of some of those great personalities in human history vis a vis our Lord Jesus Christ.
I’m thinking of folks like Socrates who taught for 40 years, along with Aristotle for 40 and Christ for only 3.5 years. Yet the influence of Christ’s ministry infinitely transcends the impact left by the combined years of teaching from these greatest philosophers.
Jesus painted no pictures yet some of the finest paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci received their inspiration from Him.
Christ wrote no poetry, but He inspired Dante, Milton and scores of the world’s greatest poets.
Jesus composed no music. Still Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Bach and Mendelssohn reached their highest perfection of melody in the music they composed in His praise.
Every sphere of human greatness and even our own physical and psychological good health this past year has been enriched by that humble Carpenter from Nazareth! It was my dear friends, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who sustained, encouraged and inspired the researchers, scientists, doctors, nurses, first responders, along with all of us throughout this pandemic. Let us not forget to come to church during the summer months to thank Him for granting us the gift of life!
Have a blessed summer!
